Training and Skills Development
Halal Food Authority has introduced a unique new scheme for diligent graduates, with initiative, who want to employ their knowledge of their respective fields of study and experience into the field of halal certification and accreditation. The HFA has been assiduously working for the past seventeen years to provide the Ummah with authentic halal food, meat and poultry and foodstuffs. The HFA wishes to bring in fresh and young talent and expertise to complement our existing audit and food technology departments.
Graduate Employment Scheme
Do you have a real interest in the more scientific and technical aspects of halal food, meat and poultry and other food stuffs? Do you enjoy working with and motivating other people?This technical role will have the graduate working with the assessment, verification, monitoring and accreditation of halal procurement, processing and production, and many other aspects to ensure that the products HFA certifies as authentic halal are safe, healthy and of high quality for Muslim consumers. Complying both to Islamic Jurisprudence and relevant EU regulations of hygiene, food safety and environmental health.
The graduate entrant will assist others in knowing what can and can’t be done and agreeing solutions for specific scenarios. The candidate will need to be decisive, confident and firm in approach coupled with a desire to continue learning and developing graduate entrant skills.
We take training and development very seriously; after all, these graduate entrants are to become responsible officers of the organisation at the end of their employment scheme. Whichever the specialisation, successful applicants will work towards professional qualifications and will receive assessments, regular reviews of their performance and development. Whenever they join, graduate entrants will be able to see the impact of their work around them, every day. As they become part of the organisation that helps to define the standard for halal.
Criteria:
Graduate entrants are expected to have, or will have attained an appropriate food or meat related or science based degree, or have one or two years’ experience within a food manufacturing environment. You must be expecting or have attained a 2:1 degree and achieved a minimum of 280 UCAS points.
Duration:
- 3 years
Training:
A programme of courses covering key technical competencies and management skills. These include:
- Introduction to halal
- Introduction to halal auditing
- HFA approved auditor training
- Introduction to Food Safety Legislation
- HACCP & Internal Auditing
- Introduction to Food Labelling
- BRC trained third party auditor training
In addition on the job training, coaching and mentoring will be provided.
Placements are arranged so as to give as broad an exposure as possible to different products, processes and fields.
Roles:
Typical roles are:
- HFA Auditor (where you will have responsibility for monitoring compliance with HFA standards and helping organisations to resolve any issues identified during an audit). The candidate will be expected to visit food processing plants, meat portioning/cutting plants and slaughterhouses in the UK and if necessary around the world.
- Food Technologist (involving checks, analysis and scrutiny of specs with a view of approval of new products for halal validation).
Location:
Placements would be at our head office in London, UK.
